This is already week 5 of Summer of Colour and this week's colour combo was candy apple red and yellow. I have to admit that I really struggled with this one. I don't really like primary colours. I do like vibrant colours, like jewels, jade, aqua, cerise, turquoise, vibrant earthy oranges, velvety purples, midnight blues and sapphires and deep wine red - all of which work wonderfully with my wee Big Skies, Little Planet illustrations. But bright red and bright yellow? Not so much. I pondered this conundrum for a while this morning, in between doing the housework and hanging out the washing on this the second glorious summer's day in a row and then it came to me - Sunny days, yellow sandy beaches and building sandcastles with bright red buckets!

It isn't my favourite colour combo so far and I think I may have been a bit heavy-handed with the paint spatters. I also had to include a little bit of blue for the sky and sea but other than that, I guess this is my submission for Summer of Colour Week 5! This will be going into my Etsy shop soon along with all the others from this series of illustrations.
Pop over to Kristin's blog, Facebook or Flickr to see all the other ideas folk had for this colour combo. There are so many participating in this challenge and it's amazing how many different ideas people have!
I'm off now to go get my sister from the train station - very excited to see her and I hope this wonderful heatwave lasts for the week!
